Here is a strange, random, and totally unimportant question for you all: I'm fostering a little Australian Shepherd. She's about the same size as Katie. 30ish pounds. She's doing great. But I've never had a herding dog before. Just Papillons and doodles. Here's the weird thing. When she steps on me it hurts. It feels like a 150 pound dog putting her foot on you. Maggie and Willow are both almost twice her size and when they stand on me it doesn't feel like that. What superpower does this dog have to impale me with a foot?
It's so interesting to see genetics come into play. She doesn't know anything. She spent her entire life in a cage. But the way she moves. It's so different from my dogs. It's, well it's like a herding dog. That's not learned behavior. That's just who she is. I've also never heard her bark, and it's been almost 2 months. Maggie didn't bark at first, but I think by the time she'd been here 2 months she had figured it out. She's really come a long way. I couldn't get her out of the crate for the first two weeks, and now she loves exploring the yard and sitting on the couch. She even seems to be looking for a little attention. She's getting spayed next week and then it will be about time for her to start looking for her forever home. The one thing we still really need to work on is walking on a leash. So far it's a total failure, but I also really haven't tried.
Look how cute she is!
