Hi friends,

My sweet 12 year golden doodle Holly has started falling a ton. We have mostly hard floors, and she looks as if she is walking on ice. Getting up from standing is the worst. The vet ha s diagnosed her with some neuropathy in her back legs and hips so I think that is the stem of it, but how do I help her? Are there special doggy grippy socks? Any advice is welcome, it's so hard to watch. 9604860677?profile=RESIZE_710x

  • There are all kinds of non-slip booties for dogs. I found these (they are available on Amazon) and several other brands in a few seconds. Try doing a google search for "non-skid or non-slip footwear for dogs."
Just a thought: Is Holly taking Gabapentin by any chance? I ask because Jack was once on it and it caused him to fall over. It has that side effect in some dogs.

    Grippers™ Non Slip Dog Socks
Non slip dog socks to give your dog traction on slippery surfaces such as tile and hardwood. Unique design has grip around the entire paw for maximum…
  • Also some cheap area rugs or runners are nice, you can create a bit of a path between where your sweet dog likes to be most of the day.

    • The caution with rugs and runners is that they absolutely must have some type of non-slip backing that keep them in place.

      • Yes, I guess I figured that was obvious.

        • You'd be surprised how hard it is to find rugs that have the non-skid backing, especially at a reasonable price. Most of them require a pad underneath, as Anne mentioned below. It gets very expensive, and to me, the upkeep is also a PITA. Three layers underfoot to vacuum, clean, etc.

          • There are a ton of cheap runners with backing at Wal Mart and other such stores.

            • Yeah, I don't buy anything from Walmart.  Not if they were giving things away for free. I also don't have the time or patience to search through the random stock at stores like Home Goods or Tuesday Morning.
Price is important, but I also don't want ugly things in my house, so I'm kind of picky about colors/patterns. I find Kohl's has a pretty good selection.

              • Lay out some runners or put boots on/off an old dog every time she comes in the house...Id go with the rugs myself.

    • We did this for Haley when his front leg was amputated due to osteoscarcoma.   It worked quite well for him.  I did buy non slip rug pads for all.

  • This is the brand of booties that Wally uses: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B6BKVJ7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search...

Besides taking Galiprant and Gabapentin, he now receives acupuncture treatments every three weeks. Acupuncture has helped more than anything else.
