Hello, My name is Jane and this is our 14 week old F1B labradoodle, Duffy.  I retired on Dec. 20 and we picked up our puppy on Dec 21.  I love staying home with him but I will be glad when he gets his final Parvo shot so we can get out and play more!  This is our first Doodle, our old boxer passed away this summer.  It's been awhile since we had a little puppy, I think we decided 23 years!!  My husband plans to train Duffy to retrieve waterfowl and he would like to train him to hunt mushrooms as well.  I am just happy to have a dog in the house again!  Sorry, I can't figure out how to right the picture or how to delete it now!  lol3827483183?profile=RESIZE_710x

  • Congratulations!

He's very cute and love that red bandana :)

  • He is so cute :) Welcome home little pup!

  • Adorable!  Welcome :)

  • Congratultions! What a sweetie. Is Duffy a Chiefs fan? I'm in Kansas City and everyone is super excited about the Super Bowl. I don't football, but Go Chiefs.

I love the idea of teaching him to hunt for mushrooms. I'm currently taking a scentwork class and I imagine it's the exact same thing, only your source odor would be mushrooms instead of birch. We are at the very beginning of learning, but so far it's a lot of fun.

    • Hi Stacy, we are in Belton and yes we are excited about the Super Bowl.  I'm not sure Duffy cares but he doesn't mind wearing his scarves.  Where are you taking the scent work classes?

      • I train at the Greater Kansas City Dog Training Club in Raytown. I really like it there. Apparently other people do too. I was talking to some people in my class last week and they are driving from over an hour away to take this class. I'm on the Kansas side, so it's a little further than I wish it was, but it's worth it.

        • I trained there with my cocker years ago and really liked it.  It was when 9/11 happened and I quit going due to gas prices etc.  I think that where we will end up.  I definitely don't want to go to the box store training.

          • We would love to have you! Become a member and classes are 80 for 6 weeks. Much less expensive than the big box stores, and there are more interesting classes than just house manners. I love Rally, and Scent Work seems like it will be fun if I ever really figure out what I'm doing! I know there can be good trainers at the big box stores, but it's hit or miss. I know, they let me be the dog trainer at Petsmart years ago. All I did was attend a one week training session. And trust me, I'm not a master trainer. I can't walk a straight line to save my life!

            • Thanks.  We are both retired now, I retired Dec 20 from Truman Med Center and we picked Duffy up on the 21st.  We really want him to be trained well so we can take him anywhere.  I always loved the therapy dogs at the hospital and I'm interested in participating in that program with him.  I'm sure you will see us.

              • Congrats on your retirement! I'm jealous. I also wave at you. I work at Children's Mercy downtown.

One of my friends at the kennel club is something important with Pet Partners. I think she said she was in charge the visits at 80 sites. She would be an amazing resource for you. She's a nurse too. Seems like there are a lot of medical type people floating around.
