Are we still tentative on the 24th as the romp date or have we confirmed it?  TIA

Hi Trish. We can’t reply to your group message. The tentative date for the next romp is March 24th.

Helga, I remember you mentioning your beloved Chinook. He really was beautiful

and obviously treasured.

Helga what a beautiful picture of you two in the snow.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  I wonder now if that's what my Tiger had in the end he had no control of her lower body parts but that was well over 30 years ago.

Karen, there wasn't a discussion on it.  I shared Maisie's DNA results with Carolyn at the romp on Sunday and under medical is listed her as a carrier to the DM.  I couldn't remember the particulars on it so I told her i'd let her know when I found my notes.  My comments was just an FYI to her.

I didn't see where the discussion on Degenerative Myelopathy originated from, or what the original question was, but I know the disease from fostering and being invlved with German Shepherds. It is an autosomal recessive inherited disease. Some info: http://cidd.discoveryspace.ca/disorder/degenerative-myelopathy.html

It is absolutely awful and devastating. Our German/Australian shepherd had it

I had never even heard of such a thing before. It was so sad to watch him decline. I had bought a harness to support his rear when he couldn't anymore. When he wasn't able to get up anymore at all and lost control over his bladder and bowels we made the tough decision to say goodbye. Not because I minded cleaning up. I would have gladly done that if it had given me more time with him. But his quality of life was just gone and he was so embarrassed.

Chinook was a great dog and my kids will always treasure growing up with him. Pictures from his last moments surrounded by love and tears. And from happier times in Lake Tahoe.

Carolyn, follow up to your question on Maisie.  Here is what I plucked on the Degenerative Myelopathy, sorry I was way off. Lol  Luckily she's only a carrier to one so this won't be an issue for her unless I planned on breeding which I am not.

(DM) is a progressive neurological disorder that affects the spinal cord of dogs. Dogs that have inherited two defective copies will experience a breakdown of the cells responsible for sending and receiving signals from the brain, resulting in neurological symptoms.
