Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello all! My doodle currently eats Zignature Trout and Salmon grain free after trying Orijen for many months and him being constipated from it. He has done great on Zignature now for almost 3 yrs but my vet and many breeders I follow are now warning against grain free diets (especially those high in potatoes and legumes) because of the effects on the heart. Is this something I need to be worried about?

Can you say "monopoly", boys and girls?

Ha ha...comparing to Monsanto is pretty about Coca-cola instead. They are skewing the studies to make themselves look good not purposely poisoning us. But I know what you mean :-)

Purina is one of the best selling brands out there. It most likely reflects what the owners diet look like too.

I wouldn't be so generous to Coca Cola. Why do you think the Coke they make for the Mexican market uses cane sugar and not the high fructose corn syrup they use in the "American" version? It's all made in the same place. They sell the Mexican Coke in a lot of stores here. Check the label some time and compare it to the "American" version. I'm not so sure they aren't deliberately poisoning us.

They also have contracts with public schools where they "donate" much needed funds in exchange for advertising and the school selling their products in vending machines, lunch rooms, etc.

It's just the way the food industry works in the US.  Perfectly legal - unfortunately.

Legal doesn't equal ethical. :(

It's so frustrating!  The government is the worst for biased studies so how can they control anyone else's when they can't control their own!

My Dr calls Coca-Cola rust cleaner.

I actually feel nauseated when I see people drink soda, any soda, not just Coke.

You would die. I drink nothing but diet soda and coffee. I hate water. I think it tastes terrible. My mom doesn't like water. I grew up drinking milk by the gallon. As an adult I just transitioned to soda and coffee.

They give me a hard time at work about the quantity of coffee... I always tell them it's just water - filtered through a coffee bean.

Water isn't supposed to taste like anything, lol, terrible or not. It's for thirst and hydration, not a taste sensation. It is supposed to be refreshing. Try adding ice. Try sparkling water, or 0 calorie flavored water. Seriously. Diet soda still has an effect on blood sugar, insulin, and cellulite.

Coffee doesn't bother me, as long as it's not full of sugar and flavorings. I drink it every morning, to wake up and get things moving, lol. Not because of the taste.

In my practice, I saw too many people with weight and health problems who seemed to feel that beverages didn't count in their daily calorie intake. They would forget to even include them when asked what they consumed every day.
Personally, if I'm going to ingest all kinds of sugar, chemicals, and calories, I want something I can chew and savor, not something you pour down your throat. But that's me.

I would absolutely rather chew my calories! Some of those fancy coffee beverages have more calories than a Snickers! I drink my coffee black. And I know artificial sweetener is bad too, but it just tastes so good.
