Where's the Poodle in my Doodle?

This group is for those of us with puppies or dogs who look far more like the Golden or Labrador halves of themselves than the Poodle half. This group is for us to recognize the Poodle traits that shape our dogs while sharing experiences.

Pita is absolutely adorable.

Hello everyone! Happy to show you all that Pita is now 7 months and is starting to doodle out. She has thick wavy hair and her facial furnishings are coming in like crazy.

Leasha, I think Summer looks like a labradoodle. It’s obvious that you’ve been taking great care of her. Look how shiny her coat has become.

Moyen / Klein Poodle Info:                                                                            Moyen is the French word for the fourth size of Poodle in France, but the remainder of Europe refers to them as Kleins.  Its size falls in between the Miniature and Standard Poodle, but it is not obtained by crossing the two; it is an actual fourth Poodle breed size in Europe and is not a new size. Kleins (Moyen) are very common in the U.S.
They are not recognized by the AKC, however they are recognized by the following organizations:
  • FCI = Fédération Cynologique Internationale
  • UKC = United Kennel Club
  • DRA = Dog Registry of America, Inc.

This website talks about the Klein (also called Moyen) Poodle.: Check it out:

https://www.dogbreedplus.com/dog_breeds/klein_poodle.php

The Klein Poodle is a German purebred also called a Moyen Poodle.   It is a small to medium sized dog with a life span of 12 to 15 years. There are 3 recognized sizes of Poodle but there is this one too, the 4th Poodle. The only difference is the size, the Klein falls between the Miniature Poodle and the Standard Poodle. While it is not recognized by the AKC it is a very popular dog in the US and like all Poodles is intelligent, playful, energetic and a good companion.

I have been living with Poodles for 60 years, and there is very little I don't know about them. There is no such thing as a "moyen" Poodle in the U.S., and it is also not recognized as a breed in the United Kingdom. There are people selling "moyen" Poodles, in this country and elsewhere, but there is no registry, no pedigree database, and no way to verify that any given "moyen" Poodle in this country is a purebred dog. If in fact someone is breeding Standards to Miniatures to get something in-between in size, that's a genetic disaster waiting to happen.

Leasha, your furry friend looks like a labradoodle.  Summer's one year and two year picture looks so different.

The Moyen / Klein poodle is a purebred poodle.  It is the '4th size of poodle', actually in between the Standard and Miniature  Poodles. It is currently not recognized by AKC, but is very popular in Europe, Canada and Europe.

Here is a link that describes the Moyen (also called Klein) poodle.

Summer looks like a labradoodle to me. In her two year photo, she resembles the famous Bocker, who was definitely a labradoodle. A LOT of labradoodles have straighter coats, many shed, and rose pigment is also not uncommon. Those DNA testing kits are available fairly cheaply now.

Thank you all for your responses.

Anyone else out there has an F1 goldendoodle with no furnishings?
