WELCOME TO THE FOOD GROUP - This group was started in an attempt to present well-researched and FACT-based information on the amazingly complicated and confusing issue of feeding our dogs. There are also many issues we would like to explore. We thought it would be helpful to put all of these questions, information, and feedback into one place here on DK where everyone can find it, contribute to it, ask questions, and learn together.
WE ASK THAT YOU NOT POST ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCTS FOR WHICH YOU RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF COMMISSION OR COMPENSATION. THANK YOU.
IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ "FOOD GROUP GUIDELINES" BEFORE STARTING A NEW DISCUSSION.

I think this is an easy question. I think Maggie is tired of her food. She's been eating the same thing for a long time, and she's kind of blah on it. She's my most reluctant eater anyway. She's eating Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Beef. She's…Continue

Fungi Treats?

Started by Stacy. Last reply by Stacy Jul 5. 9 Replies

I promise I'm not considering feeding the girls treats made out of Koji (Aspergillus oryzae) as the protein. But I was randomly browsing the internet and I stumbled across an ad for this, and I thought, "well that's the weirdest thing ever. I better…Continue

I googled the consumption of the watermelon Rind...concensus is safe but will make them wizz like a racehorse (not sure why)....a lot consumed will most likely give them the running trots. (like Lynne posted, too much of a good thing) and there is also danger of a blockage if eaten in large chunks. No more tossing the Rind at our house.

We just tried it. Our crew loved sharing watermelon with my girls, they did not get much but the handout amount and some zoomies with the rine (the rine did worry me a bit but I do wash the melon very well before cutting it up). No problems afterward, firm and regular. Wahooo.

I know that some people freeze watermelon in the ice container and give that as a treats to their dogs when it is hot... like here presently!

Jack eats everything. Table scraps? They're all his. Watermelon is mostly water so won't cause problems, but too much of ANY food could cause diarrhea if the dog is not used to having different foods.

I think Lynne's dogs eat watermelon. I know there are some here who do. I haven't heard of any problems.

Do any other doodles eat watermelon? Jack discovered this last night and he was going nuts for it. Does anyone know if there is any problem with dogs eating watermelon?

Trina, if you would like to start a discussion about the food, you are welcome to do so. In fact, I intend to do it myself when I leave work. The food gets a 3 star rating from the Pet Food Analysis site, has mediocre ingredients and lots of filler, and is not recommended. If you look at the ingredients, this is definitely not a human grade food, unless you know any humans who eat beet pulp, lol.
I am personally not a fan of MLM schemes, but that is my own opinion. I do resent someone (not you) coming into a group that has been a labor of love for many of us for a long time, and has involved a lot of time & effort which has taken many of us away from our families & our own dogs, not bothering to read any of the info here, presenting us with a link to a website which we already know like the back of our hands, and attempting to sell something. At least when you buy in the store, you make the choice to go to the store voluntarily.

DK guidelines prohibit the promotion of any product for which the poster receives compensation. Here in The Food Group, we try to present factual information and relate our own experiences in order to help group members make informed choices.
It is never a good idea to base your choices about any product, particualrly one which affects health, on the claims of the person who stands to gain from the purchase. Independent information is always your safest bet.

Thanks Cheryl and Lynn, You were both right. She has been just fine! And has acclimated to staying with us beautfully relieving my mom of some the stress she was feeling about leaving her. Intersetingly, I belive I have convinced my
Mom to change her food from one ranked a one on dog food analysis.com. I know mom gives her cooked meet every once in awhile, so I asked her about fruits and veggies. The answer was " I do give any" I gave her a carrot and she LOVE it I can't wait to tell her. Thanks again!
