This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups.  Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.

giving corrections in obedience to a rescue dog

I would like to have a discussion and I'm not sure if it's more training or rescue. And I'm going to try to be concise (so hard for me!) But I'm happy to provide more info. So give me all of your opinions!Maggie has a trainer this session who I am not loving - he's all about getting them properly ready for the ring. He says that I need to stop babying and feeling sorry for Maggie and just make her do what I want. I say that I don't feel sorry for her, but I know her and I know what she's afraid…

Go out there and have fun with your dog

That's what someone said to us today, and that's what we did. They weren't perfect scores. Maggie wasn't interested in laying down without a treat, and I apparently don't know how to do a figure 8. But they were good enough to qualify! She has 4 legs of her Rally Novice - we only needed 3, but we weren't brave enough to try intermediate today, so we got an extra. It's hard to describe how proud I am. I'm sort of walking around with my head in a cloud. I can't wait to see what we do next. We…

Wranger Training Update

So far had about three private lessons with wrangler and his trainer. We have a set of commands that we wrangler and I are working on daily. The big challenge is the walk. He is such a big boy that he is able to pull me right down the street if he wants too. The trainer is spending a lot of time working on ’training me’ how to control wrangler on leash. As expected, when wrangler is walking with Kevin he is an angel! To add to the complication, wrangler was neutered and had a gastopexy so…

How Soon They Forget

I came across this cartoon and it really hit home (and it made me laugh).  So often when I was "knee deep" in training my Doods I was totally amazed (and crazed) about how well they did in obedience class and then seemed to forget it all in those practical situations (when I really NEEDED them to behave).  It's all about context.  That took me forever to learn...and I'm the human.  When the circumstances or surroundings are different, often times they just don't get it.  That's why it's so…

I Still Believe In Magic CGC, TKN

I am so incredibly proud of my girl. She's really learning to be brave. She loves riding in the car and going to class. And this was just the best confidence building and socialization class. My shy girl was making friends and letting strangers pet her. She's learning to live her best life.

  • She must have thought is was something else?????

  • Wow. What brought that on?

  • There is a "leave group" button at the top right of the page just above the "Members" listing.

  • Get me out of this group
  • Thanks, Jane!

  • Congratulations Karen and Jasper!!!!
