Laurie, Wally & Charlotte replied to Alyssa and Theo's discussion Switching from Acana in the group The Food Group
"Thanks, Karen, for your very thorough and well-explained response. We are sticking with Acana's Regionals line, rotating proteins, as usual. When our vet asks about why we are continuing to feed them a grain-free diet, I will present your…"

Laurie, Wally & Charlotte replied to Alyssa and Theo's discussion Switching from Acana in the group The Food Group
"Thanks, Karen. In addition to our vet, my sister-in-law (who is a breeder in Florida) suggested the same thing. She said to find a different food that uses oats and wheat, but not legumes. Does it make any sense to have my dogs' taurine levels…"

Laurie, Wally & Charlotte replied to Alyssa and Theo's discussion Switching from Acana in the group The Food Group
"Now that we are back on the Cape, our vet here is strongly encouraging me to switch from the Acana Regionals Grain-Free formulas that I have been feeding Wally and Charlotte for years. I starting researching foods without peas, legumes, beans, etc.,…"

Karen, Jasper and Jackdoodle replied to Laurie, Wally & Charlotte's discussion Struvite Crystals in the group The Food Group
"It's my understanding that struvite stones form as a result of a bladder infection.  This is a good explanation: "Normal dog urine is slightly acidic and contains waste products from metabolism including dissolved mineral salts and…"

"I thought that cranberry supplements are good for preventing the bacteria that can cause UTIs. I didn't realize that they would lower her pH. So, if there is no infection, is it true that the crystals cannot group together to form…"

Karen, Jasper and Jackdoodle replied to Laurie, Wally & Charlotte's discussion Struvite Crystals in the group The Food Group
"Yes, calcium oxalate crystals are completely different. For those, you need to make the urine more alkaline, so complete opposite nutritionally."

Karen, Jasper and Jackdoodle replied to Laurie, Wally & Charlotte's discussion Struvite Crystals (Also posted in Food Group) in the group Health and Medical Issues (for our pets)
"I'm reposting my comment from your dicussion on this in The Food Group. The cranberry supplements also make the urine more acidic, which is what you want with struvite crystals.  I think that if there is no infection present (i.e. no…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm in my early 50s and live in a Boston suburb with my husband and our labradoodles, Wally and Charlotte. I'm also the mom of two grown children. I worked as a writer and teacher before becoming lucky enough to retire early. I spend my time with my husband, friends, family, and my furry buddies. I also enjoy cooking, photography, knitting, reading and walking - we take a couple of good walks each day. That's me in a nutshell. Oh, and we're in Cape Cod during the summer and Naples, Florida, for the winter.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Wally is an Australian Labradoodle from Tegan Park in Florida. His birthday is May 21, 2006. His parents are Zimba and Paige. He is extremely friendly and loves everybody and every animal he meets! Charlotte is also an Australian Labradoodle, and is from Heartsong Labradoodles in Kentucky. She was born on June 7, 2012. Her parents are Mattie and Cole. So far, at 11 weeks of age, she's a dream and we love her to pieces! And equally important is that Wally likes her, too.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?

What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
We enjoy going for long walks with friends, and spending time outside. Wally LOVES to play football in our backyard. We also enjoy hiking in the town forest and going to Elm Bank and the Weston Reservoir. Wally really likes to go swimming, especially at Crystal Lake in Orleans on the Cape. When Charlotte is a bit older, I hope to get her out in the world, just like her big brother.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
I do regular brushing, and they go to the groomer every 6-8 weeks.

Yes, I can see from your photos that they are not curly.  My ALD, however, is very curly and actually has a rather easy to maintain coat.  I keep him cut short after an initial try at having dreads.  His hair dreaded very well, but it is a pain to try to keep up.  And conditioner is definitely out for us.  Sometimes I groom him myself and other times I have the mobile groomer bathe and groom him.

Your Aussie Doods are simply gorgeous...and they look so incredibly sweet.  Lucky you!  HA!  and of course, lucky them. Cute cute cute.  A couple of my friends just got aussie's so I will get first hand info on how they fall in love with their babies.

Haha...yes.   We get SPAMMERS now and then.  If only these spammers would get a feel for their audience they'd realize most of us ARE women and would prefer to see a doodle in a bikini than them ;-)  I ban these new members as soon as I see them or someone reports them.  If you click on their photos all that will happen is you'll be taken to their DK profile page...
