Hey Cary, thanks for following up on Abner the labradoodle at RAL. He is going to a foster home in No Va and become part of the Doodle Rescue Collective family. He will be available for adoption soon through them. :-)
Hi Cary, it was good meeting you and your daughter and seeing Jimmy @ Salisbury CC on Sat. Drop me a line via email @ firstname.lastname@example.org. I have a page on doodlekisses. Don't use it very much but there are a few pics of our Brody on it.
We'll keep the doodle get together @ the Dude Ranch in mind.
Hi Cary! I thought I would also put my two cents in regarding Sloppy Kisses Dog Grooming! Robin is excellent in the way she grooms our girls as well as the way she handles them. And they love her, too! There are several of us in the Richmond group who go to Robin and I think everyone has been very satisfied. She is the owner of the shop and has one other groomer working for her now, but says that only SHE will do the grooming of Doodles!! I like that she makes sure she knows what you want and will call you before she does anything (in case they have to be cut down shorter due to matting) Just tell her that you want the "Morgan & Maddie" cut - she'll know what you mean!!
Her number if you want it is 744-7674.
I can’t tell you who to use for a Groomer but I think the greatest invention for mats is the thinning shears. I’ve recently discovered these to work really well to get mats out. If you use them as part of your brushing and maintenance it will help whom ever you have grooming your doodle so they don’t have to cut to close.
I take Hokie to a boarder who lives near the airport. Its a no frills place, its at this woman's house. She is there all the time. She has 3 labs of her own. She is pretty particular with the dogs she will board. Let me know if you are interested in talking to her.
You are up early this morning! How interesting that you found Zakie in Missouri. Did you move to Virginia here from there or did you find her online? My girls are from Laurel Ridge Golden Doodles in Blacksburg, Va. The breeder is a vet in Christianburg. She sent me photos of the girls, the last two in the litter, and I didn't have the heart to split them apart. I know they will just love to meet Zakie sometime. Are you going to the Dude Ranch Romp later this month? I will, unfortunately, be in San Fran for a meeting but Michael is planning to take the girls.
There have been some issues with Frontline not working. I switched last year to Andvantix. When I took Stella to Iowa with me she had two tick on her but both dead. Ask your vet what she/he thinks about that.
You can get doggie life jackets at almost any bet store. Petsmart, Petco, Fin and Feather or Perfect Pets. Just to name a few. I don't know what is closer to you.
As far as your grooming question goes. Yes it is much easier to see and look for ticks with a shorter coat. I don't have any recommendations as far as groomers go. I do my own...sorry on that one. But I like to keep Stella short. Not because I like it but she gets hot sooo easy and the mats become an issue after a while. They puppy has only had a little trim around the face and lower areas so far.
We have Winston groomed at least every 8 weeks. Now he has his summer cut. It takes a while to get used to but for the summer it is a lot easier. We are beach people so the short hair is great - no sand to bring home!!!!! Winston is not a water dog so that is not a problem! I think Winston enjoys the shorter hair - he struts down the street after his grooming. My suggestion is to talk to a groomer first.
